Annotation

In Luisa Bělohlávková’s rendition, the mother is depicted as a warrior, a stout goddess. Although it might not be visible at first sight, the material indicates her fragility. It takes very little for her to shatter into dozens of little pieces; but that does not mean she has to remain shattered. In this allegory of motherhood, the author pays homage to those women who have been touched by the issue. The statuette Viva La Mamma is part of Luisa’s last collection entitled Thank You for Such a Happy Meal.

Bio

Luisa Bělohlávková (* 1996) studies at the Ceramics and Porcelain studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under the supervision of Milan Pekař. She originally studied furniture design, but was greatly influenced by attending a workshop at Letná where she would go in her free time. She focuses on artistic and applied works which she characteristically paints, oftentimes in patterns reminiscent of folklore motifs. She often finds inspiration in childhood memories, but also motherhood, beauty and everyday scenes.
