By emphasizing authenticity, questioning construction methods and reappraising the ability of materials to reveal character, Tadeáš Podracký proposes a new methodology of making – a reformulated approach to design that is based in emotive decisions, unpredictability and expression. When making this collection, Podracký used his “creation through destruction” technique, granting each piece a high level of unpredictability. To make his table, Podracký used recycled pieces of glass, and the table is topped with a vase made from shards of blue and alexandrite, joined together in the same way as the glass table. The glass shards were freely and organically glued together during the hand-crafting process. The vase remains purposely non-aestheticized, as Tadeáš Podracký wished
to show the material’s fragility and brokenness.

Bio

Tadeáš Podracký (* 1989) is an experimental designer who seeks authenticity in our immediate surroundings. Through material research, questioning craft heritage and employing strong, hands-on making techniques, he proposes a new methodology and a reformulated approach to design based on exploration, expression, destruction, and individuality. He is always searching for a way to break down the established principles of “good” design; in order to bring new possibilities and emphasize the multi-layered identities of the contemporary individual. Tadeáš Podracký received an MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven and an MA from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
