The Moulds collection of ceiling lights captures the moment when molten glass freely runs from the mould, resembling an amorphous bubble. Nine years ago, designers Jan Plecháč and Henry Wielgus designed it for Lasvit, rebelling against the perfection of classic crystal chandeliers. They deliberately included a beechwood fixture body in the design, with visible details of joints and numerical markings alluding to the form into which the glass is normally hand-blown.

Bio

The Jan Plecháč & Henry Wielgus studio was founded by designers Jan Plecháč (1984) and Henry Wielgus (1982) in 2012 and they worked together until 2019. During that time, they produced designs for global brands such as Bomma, Cappellini, La Chance, Lasvit, Menu, Mint Shop, Nike, Spazio Rossana Orlandi and many others. All their diverse projects showed an experimental approach – the overall concept of the work was always a priority for both designers while its aesthetic qualities remained secondary and were often characterized by handcraft.

About the company

In the family of Leon Jakimič, the founder of Lasvit, the glassmaking tradition has been handed down for generations. The company name was created in 2007 by joining together the Czech words “láska,” meaning love, and “svit,” meaning light, and they have since become leaders in their field. Lasvit’s work shines most in special glass installations, kinetic crystal sculptures and glass facades. They use the know-how of small workshops as well as large glassworks, and in 2017 they acquired the famous Ajeto glassworks in Lindava which focuses on artistic glass production. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Maxim Velčovský, they have collaborated with world design leaders, such as Daniel Libeskind, Kengo Kuma, Zaha Hadid, Campana Brothers, Nendo and others, helping put Czech glassmaking back on the map.
